Frequently Asked Questions

Our regularly scheduled weekend cruises are 1.5 hours long. Most private charters are from 2-3 hours long. There is a two hour minimum for private charters, and you can cruise all day if you like with up to a total of 6 people in your party, (including children).

A camera, hat, sunglasses, sunblock, windbreaker, small cooler, and any personal preferences. Bottled water is available onboard, and we can provide a picnic lunch/dinner at an additional charge upon request, (with advance notice...please email or call us for additional information).

We can carry up to six passengers, and no more than six passengers including all children 6 or over. Please see our policy page for more information.

With the exception of our regularly scheduled weekend cruises, excursions are billed by the hour at a rate of $100.00 with a two hour minimum. Please contact us to help you customize your trip.

There are usually an abundance of birds including Great Blue Herons, Terns, Bald Eagles, Egrets, and Ospreys to name a few. Depending on your cruise and time of year we may even ride along with dolphins, or see rays and river otters. Along the shoreline you may also see deer and wild turkeys.

For the safety of our other passengers, we do not allow for fishing on our regularly scheduled cruises. Please let us know if you are interested in doing some fishing on your private charter cruise and we will see about arranging that for you. We also offer 1/2 day bottom fishing charters for $350.00 with all equipment and bait provided.

Children over 6 years of age are welcome aboard. Please let us know if any special arrangements are necessary. Children are required to wear life vests at all times, and we do carry a limited variety of sizes but you must please call or email to discuss prior to arriving. If you have your own childrens lifejackets, those are best to bring along.

We're based at The Inn at Tabbs Creek Bed and Breakfast at 384 Turpin Lane, Port Haywood, Virginia. Just a 5 minute drive from the town of Mathews, this is a beautiful location to take in a bit of scenery before your charter, and of course, if you are already staying at the Inn, just a few short steps from your back door!

We carry all of the required U.S.C.G. safety items, and the “Helen Elizabeth” as well as Captain Trey Sowers are fully insured and licensed. Here at The Inn at Tabbs Creek, we have a floating dock with access ramp as well as steps onto the boat for easy boarding. There are almost always additional crew members available to assist with boarding those who may have some limitations, so don’t be afraid to ask! We also have comfortable chairs on board for those not able to stand for long periods of time.
